A Tribute to Dhanaseelan Pillay

I’m honored to add my voice to the chorus of tributes praising Dhanaseelan “Dan” Pillay’s remarkable contributions to our struggle against apartheid. As a security policeman, Dan secretly worked with us in the underground, gathering vital intelligence that aided our fight for truth and social justice.

A Personal Encounter

During my detention in 1986, Dan’s kindness and courtesy stood out amidst the harsh realities of that time. It wasn’t until later that I discovered his true allegiance, working tirelessly as a mole for our comrades, notably under Moe’s guidance.

Legacy

Dan’s story, as eloquently captured in Moe Shaik’s “The Spy Bible,” is one of bravery, selflessness, and patriotism. His dedication to serving the new South Africa post-apartheid, particularly in the Investigative Unit at SARS, is a testament to his enduring commitment to justice.

Farewell

As we bid farewell to this unsung hero, I pray that his soul finds peace, and his legacy inspires future generations to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. Rest in peace, Comrade Dan.

Your service will never be forgotten.
